A Webquest into The Traditional Music of India

 

Individual Mission- Historian

 

Research the historical Background of Traditional Indian music with respect to:

 > The development and important elements of both Hindustani and Karnatak Music

 > The Guru and Music Education

 

You must complete these following tasks whilst on your mission:
  1. At your hotel you will find a Video Titled "Indian Music History", watch this video and complete the Quiz provided. You must complete the Quiz with a score of at least 700 before beginning your travels!

 Congratulations on passing the introductory Quiz! You are now equipped with the basic knowledge to help you on your travels.
  1. Travel to the town of Bangladesh and visit the library where you are to find and read the article "Indian Music" By Ravi Shankar (a renowned Sitar Player). 
  1.  Travel to the South of India to listen to an example of Carnatic Music, then travel to the North of India and listen to an example of Hindustani Music.

  1. Attend The Spiritual Perspective seminar in Delhi and take notes on the following components of the seminar:
  • What is a guru?
  • The difference between a Guru and a Teacher
  • Importance of the Guru - from the perspective of educating a student
  • How do we recognise and acquire an evolved spiritual guide?
  1.  Now that you have attended the Seminar you are invited to sit in on a music lesson between Guru Ravi Shankar and Student George Harrison. During this once in a life time opportunity be sure to make notes on the methods the Guru uses to teach the Student and the ways in which the student responds.
